PROTECTING NEW ZEALAND'S OCEAN BEACHES FROM HIGHRISE DEVELOPMENT

District Plan Review - Tuesday 10th MARCH 2009

Govt. Auditor John Scott has announced TCC’s draft 10-Year Plan is “not financially prudent, as required by section 101 Local Govt. Act. Consequentially it does not provide a reasonable basis for long term integrated decision making by the City Council, and for participation in decision making by the public and subsequent accountability to the community about the activities of City Council.”

However Council appears unconcerned, with some Councillors simply saying they’ll fix it later...in a few year's time.
(Perhaps they’ll change the L.G.A. so no-one is responsible). They are dumping simultaneously onto the public both this unreasonably based financially imprudent 10-Year Plan PLUS the Draft District Plan Review (also a 10 year plan)- another huge critical document.

We, the public will have one month to fix both.

To prevent a rate rise (note Nth.Shore rates average at $500 above ours) you’d better get on with it urgently.

Start right here: SUPPORT Council’s decision to dump over $132 millions projects from Reserve rip-off rackets. (page 45 to 47 in Draft 10-Year Plan) OPPOSE staff’s attempts at “easier implementation of Reserve Management Plans” (Open Space Chapter in District Plan Review) where the above $132 millions pointless projects are hidden from the public.

At Tay Street we paid $198 thousands for 120 metres of circular boardwalk. How much is that per metre and where does it take us?

Apply the same scrutiny to eg Art Gallery expenses, Hot pools raging guestimates, Waterfront, Coronation pier berthage for a few motor boats, Sports Centre etc. and start booting out graft. I’m not talking about a mere $10 million like C.E.O. Stephen Town is.

Look on www.tauranga.govt.nz to find info re the above draft plans and you can also listen to the audio recordings of Council Meetings held this year.
We will UPDATE you here as soon as both these Plans are released for "comment" which will be very shortly.
