The ongoing High rise development at Mauao is devastating one
of this planet's Outstanding Natural Features and Landscapes.
"Sous le béton, la plage!" "Under the concrete,
the beach!" This battle cry, adapted for us by Emeritus Professor
of English History at Oxford University, Didier Lanciens, after
his visit to Mauao, reflects the popular student uprising in France
in the 60's when people halted the ruination of Paris by cobblestoning
over everthing. Europe has shown us their mistakes and admitted
their regret. Australia has trashed Surfers' "Paradise"
Lost. Let us learn...Let us STOP RIGHT NOW and turn back from
this stupidity, allowed for in TCC District Plan to build up to
38.5 metres and blot out our iconic Maunga. The people who first
enabled these high rises remain in power today in our city. It
is time to rout them and the greedy handful of developers who
are stealing our heritage. Wake up kiwis. Wake up Tangata whenua.
Tiakina Nga Onepu...Save the Sandhills. Get the concrete monstrosities
off our dunes. This is "The Mount, The Beach"...SAVE
IT!
